About Company

Partners In Health (PIH), known locally in Rwanda as Inshuti Mu Buzima, has been working in the country since 2005. In collaboration with the Rwandan Ministry of Health, PIH focuses on strengthening the public health system, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Their efforts have brought high-quality, integrated health care to more than 860,000 people across the Burera, Kayonza, and Kirehe districts .

Key Initiatives and Facilities

  • Butaro District Hospital: Opened in 2011 in Burera District, this 256-bed facility was developed in partnership with the Rwandan government and designed to reduce hospital-acquired infections. It serves as a teaching hospital and includes departments such as emergency care, intensive care units, pediatric wards, surgical theaters, and telemedicine facilities .

  • Butaro Cancer Center of Excellence: Established in 2012, this center offers comprehensive cancer care, including pathology-based diagnosis, chemotherapy, surgery, and long-term follow-up. It was developed by PIH with support from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Rwandan government .

  • University of Global Health Equity (UGHE): An initiative of PIH, UGHE is a private, not-for-profit institution located in Butaro. It aims to train the next generation of global health professionals and leaders, focusing on equitable health care delivery .
