About Company

The Initiative pour la Promotion de la Famille et du Genre (IPFG) is a Rwandan non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 2002 and legally registered by Ministerial Order No. 17/11 on January 31, 2006. Headquartered in Gasaka Sector, Nyamagabe District, Southern Province, IPFG is a women-led organization committed to fostering gender equality and enhancing family welfare through inclusive development initiatives.


🌟 Mission and Vision

IPFG envisions a democratic society where men and women are equally aware of their challenges, complement each other, and actively participate in development processes. Its mission is to promote and reinforce the complementarity between men and women, encouraging their participation in actions aimed at achieving social and economic development based on fairness.


🌍 Core Focus Areas

IPFG’s interventions are centered around three strategic pillars:

  1. Agricultural Production Chains and Climate Change Adaptation: Supporting sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation.

  2. Youth and Women Empowerment: Enhancing economic opportunities and leadership skills.

  3. Citizen Participation: Encouraging community involvement in governance and development.


🌱 Key Projects and Impact

1. Nyungwe Agroforestry Project (2024–2044)

In partnership with Livelihoods Funds, IPFG launched a 20-year project aiming to positively impact 13,000 hectares of farmland and involve 23,000 smallholder farmers across Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru Districts. The project focuses on:

  • Growing agroforestry trees for various advantages.

  • Improving good agricultural practices (GAP).

  • Enhancing soil fertility.

  • Increasing income opportunities within implementing communities.

2. Climate Adaptation in Nyamagabe District (2022–2024)

With €119,385 in funding from IKI Small Grants, IPFG supported 300 vulnerable households by:

  • Providing climate change-related trainings and materials in agroforestry.

  • Installing water tanks to harvest rainwater.

  • Developing local adaptation and landscape restoration action plans.


📊 Measurable Outcomes

A 2022 study assessing IPFG’s impact in Nyamagabe District revealed significant improvements in beneficiaries’ livelihoods:

  • Off-Farm Income Activities: High engagement with a mean score of 4.59.

  • Agricultural Interventions: Positive impact with a mean score of 4.54.

  • Gender Equality Promotion: Enhanced awareness and practices with a mean score of 4.32.

  • Citizen Participation: Increased community involvement with a mean score of 4.34.

The study concluded that IPFG’s activities significantly contributed to improvements in income, savings, education, and overall household welfare.
